Hi all!Has anyone found a way to downgrade the Kindle Paperwhite software from 5.6.1.0.2 to any earlier version?I feel so angry, cause I recently updated my Paperwhite 2 but I hate that the font has become much thinner on my device (cause I assume it is optimised for the Kindle Voyage), so I would like to downgrade back to 5.4.1.1 that I was using.I tried every method and with every version possible, I contacted Amazon, with no success. They told me it's impossible, but I am hoping that someone here could help. Thanks a lot in advance! Let us amend that to - it is impossible, unless you are willing to pry open your Kindle and insert probes into its innermost guts and apply the jailbreak scripts over a serial port.In other words, there is no news on that front.
But if and when a jailbreak is discovered, it will be announced to great fanfare on the master jailbreak thread:Now, if you were jailbroken, it would be a simple matter of installing the Rescue Pack, rebooting the Kindle into the ssh-enabled diags partition, ssh'ing into the Kindle and flashing the correct system images to the main partition via the command-line and the magic of - which there are already guides for. Oh yes, and because this is the modding community, if we wanted 'simple' answers we would just leave it at whatever Amazon provides.' Simple' to us generally means, with enough GUI walkthrough sugar to let people good at following directions to do stuff. With warnings prefacing any of the really complex stuff. So I provided info on where to await word of news, and enough info regarding the complex stuff that a prepared and willing newcomer knows what questions to ask (like 'tell me more, please'). Here is my solution for a downgrade to 5.4.3.2Go toand follow the instructions. The Kindle will boot with an error message.Repeat the procedure, now copy the firmware version 5.4.3.2.bin on the Kindle.Press the Power button for five to ten seconds. The Kindle will boot. Perhaps you have even press the Return key.I bought the Kindle with firmware 5.6.
Now I have 5.4.3.2Yes we know. That is our guide - posted in the Developer's Corner subforum, where such things belong. It's the serial jailbreak I referred to in post #3.You can tell, because your link actually cites us as (one of) the source(s) - which makes your recommendation somewhat circular.
